Show Notes
Jimmy Durante was a force of nature who cannot be explained in today's parlance. He was a strenuously visual comedian, who really would have been better suited to silent movies. That said, his distinctive gravelly speech, Lower East Side accent, comic language-butchery, jazz influenced songs and large nose helped make him one of Hollywood's most familiar and popular personalities in the mid-twentieth century. Besides the schnoz, Durante had two trademarks: His signature song - "Inka Dinka Doo" and his closing line after any performance: "Good Night Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are!" Host Manny Pacheco profiles his outlandish career.
Broadcaster Joe Lyons churns out another Backlot report, with news and notes that reference Hollywood's past.
