Show Notes
Gene Kelly was a blue-caller hoofer and the direct opposite to Fred Astaire's urbane style. Kelly was rugged and his choreography was innovative. And his movies were transformative; Singing in the Rain, An American in Paris, On the Town, among others. He also worked with the best, including Rita Hayworth, Cyd Charisse, Leslie Caron, Frank Sinatra, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor. Here is the story of a major movie star and one of the best to come out of MGM.
Broadcaster Joe Lyons glides his way across the floor to deliver another Backlot report, with news and notes that reference Hollywood's past.
