Show Notes
A purveyor of Beautiful Music (detractors would call Elevator Music), Franck Pourcel was a French composer, arranger and conductor. His specialty remains the music of cinema. He was a contemporary of Henry Mancini and a colleague of Paul Mauriat (Love is Blue). With the latter, they wrote the popular hit, I Will Follow Him, ultimately featured in Sister Act.
With lush arrangements, Pourcel recorded over 250 albums, 3000 songs and he conducted famous chamber groups, such as the London Symphonic Orchestra and the BBC Orchestra. He is fondly remembered as the French conductor for the wildly-popular Eurovision Song Contests between 1956 and 1972. Today, he is our tour-guide through the beautiful strains of Hollywood.
Broadcaster Joe Lyons provides the vocal Backlot narrative, with news and notes that reference Hollywood's past.
