Show Notes
Host Manny Pacheco profiles the finest hoofer during the Golden Age of Cinema. Early on, casting directors were not quite ready to annoint Fred Astaire as a star (Can't sing. Can't act. Balding. Can dance a little).
Over time, it was clear that he had no equal. Only Gene Kelly and the Nicholas Brothers choreographed moments on screen that were comparable. His escapist dance numbers of the 1930s always had a touch of class as he donned a tux and a top hat. And his dance partners, including Ginger Rogers, Judy Garland, Eleanor Powell and Rita Hayworth, were just as amazing, performing backwards and in heels.
This is Fred Astaire's remarkable story...
Broadcaster Joe Lyons lends his voice on another Backlot report, with news and notes that reference Hollywood's past.
