Show Notes
Host Manny Pacheco lovingly explores The Great American Songbook, a canon of the most important and influential songs of the 20th Century. Most of these tunes can be found in Broadway theatre and Hollywood films.
Prominent singers and writers of notable compositions include George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, Nat King Cole and Billie Holiday. These standards have stood the test of time and more recently have been interpreted by Linda Ronstadt, Willie Nelson, Barry Manilow, Harry Connick Jr., Lady Gaga, Rod Stewart and Michael Buble.
Performer Michael Feinstein has received well-deserved national attention for his unwavering commitment to the preservation of Standards through his creation of the Great American Songbook Foundation. His roots can be traced back to his mentorship with Ira Gershwin and today he collaborates with the Library of Congress to provide a home for historic written arrangements and recordings of the American song.
Feinstein will be our treasured guide on today's journey and journalist Gary Lycan will provide his Backlot report, with news and notes that reference Hollywood's past.
