Along with Louis Armstrong, early origins of modern jazz can be found in the compositions of Duke Ellington. His work was immaculate in presentation and the maestro is truly an American original. He also provided memorable scores in dozens of movies during Hollywood's Golden Age.
By the way, I had the pleasure of actually meeting Mr. Ellington, when he performed at Disneyland in the early 1970s, and I got his autograph. I treasure this keepsake!
